Minibus transfer to Corbiere Lighthouse

2:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Climb to the top – enjoy the view!

2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Meeting at the LOWER car park of Corbière, enjoy a gentle meander along the causeway to understand a little about the fascinating history of the area, and learn about the geology, flora and fauna that surround you, not to mention the role that the area played during the WW2 occupation of the Island.

Called “The Herdsman of the Waves” by Victor Hugo, this area has been known as “the dreaded Corbière” by island mariners over the centuries.

Take a journey through history with your Jersey Uncovered Blue Badge Guide and learn about the construction of this historic monument to maritime safety over the past 150 years.  As you climb the cast iron staircase, admiring the highly polished brass handrail, you will come to understand the lives of the Lighthouse keepers of the past, see where they worked, and marvel at the 19th century instruments they used, still in place and gleaming, as if the keepers had stepped out of the room just a moment ago.

This 90-minute tour will open your eyes to our fascinating maritime history, its characters and its drama, and is for both visitors and locals alike.

Minibus transfer to St Helier

4:45 pm - 5:15 pm

Arriving back in St Helier you have time to relax at your hotel and prepare for your evening adventure – with Gin and Gemstones!

Gin and Gemstones

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

At the Sail Loft, St Helier with CI Liquor Co and Gemmology Rocks

Nestled on the Maritime South Pier, we welcome you to the Old Sail Loft Distillery.  Once echoing with the sounds of sailors and traders, this historic location is now home to the CI Liquor Company.  The building’s timeless charm blends with their passion for creating handcrafted spirits.  Each bottle tells a story of craftmanship and of our Island’s Heritage.

Join us for an entertaining evening of Gin and Gemstones with a talk on selected gemstones with the fascinating Kerry Gregory of Gemmology Rocks.

Each gemstone will be accompanied with a tasting of our very own Channel Islands Liquor Company gins and tonics, crafted here in Jersey and especially selected to match the sparkling gems presented by Kerry.

The evening will be rounded off with a light bite charcuterie board by Jersey Kitchen, providing a wide selection of British and Continental cheeses, cooked meats, and salad.

Your guide will reveal what you can forage from the sea and share stories of the 19th century Oyster fishing gold rush, as you walk among the Oyster Beds of the Royal Bay of Grouville.

This one-hour adventure will leave you with a sense of wonder at what can be found when the tide recedes.

Discovering a world-famous Treasure Hoard

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Older than the pyramids, and almost as mysterious.  At La Hougue Bie, once the site of the historic Prince’s Tower, an enticing discovery was made.  Underneath the 18th Century Gothic tower built over a 12th Century chapel on the high mound, investigations revealed a 6,000-year-old Neolithic passage grave.  The tower, being deemed unsafe, was demolished, revealing a treasure trove of history beneath.

Just a stone’s throw away from this sacred site, at Le Catillon, around 2,000 years ago, another ancient treasure was buried, hidden from the Romans by Armorican tribes fleeing Gaul, and discovered only in 2012.

Join your specialist guides on a visit to our own treasure trove now held at La Hougue Bie.  The largest hoard of iron age gold and silver coins, jewellery and ingots ever found in Western Europe.

Meet the men behind the Discovery of the Hoard and hear their story, and the history of the hoard itself, what it contains, and solve the mystery of who put it there, and why!

Return transfer to St Helier

4:30 pm
